MRSA Staph infection or Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus is a staph infection that is always on the skin.  It isn’t normally a problem until the skin is broken in any way.  This could happen with Cut’s, scrapes, burns, etc.  The average person doesn’t have to worry about what MRSA Staph infection is, because your body will most likely take care of getting rid of it.  Unfortunately, there are circumstances where you may be at a higher risk.  Either way, it is important to understand what is happening with this bacteria and how it is sweeping across the nation.  Everyone needs to be prepared on what MRSA staph infection is all about.

MRSA staph infection is common on the skin and is normally not something we would worry about.  When you have a cut or scrape, the bacteria can cause an infection.  Normally antibiotics would take care of it, but because of the overuse of antibiotics, MRSA is a resilient staph infection that can be transferred by touch especially to someone with a compromised immune system.  Intensive Care Units and Nursing homes seem to be more susceptible because of the over-use of these antibiotics.

It is important to know that when visiting, or seeing anyone that is young, old, or has a compromised immune system, you want to take special care with the bacteria you are introducing them to.  If you don’t understand how or what MRSA is, you could be inadvertently introducing them to a deadly bacteria.  Just a simple kiss on the cheek or hand being held can transfer harmful MRSA bacteria from you, where it is not a threat, to someone that would easily be affected.
